Evolution of Sindhi Language

There are a very few scholars left in Sindh now, who could be relied upon for their study and research on the subject of Sindhi Language and linguistics; and Dr. G. A. Allana is one of them. He was the first formally trained expert in the filed of phonetics and phonology from the famous school of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS-London University) on the fine intricacies of the language of the Indus Valley Civilization. Dr. Allana has to credit, several books on the topics ranging from “Origin of Sindhi Language”, “Sindhi Orthography”, “Sindhi Culture and Society”, “A Descriptive Grammar of Sindhi Language” and many more. The present book is the English translation of his book “Sindhi Boli-a ji Irtiqa”, which was first published by Sindhi Language Authority in 2007. Since the subject needed to have a wider audience, Dr. Allana suggested the name of Dr. Amjad Siraj for its translation, who has proved his expertise both in translation as well as the different aspects of Sindhi linguistics. His Sindhi translation of Dr. Trumpp’s well known book “A Grammar of Sindhi Language” and English translation of Sirajul Haque Mmeon’s well researched book “Sindhi Boli” have been appreciated in the academic and literary circles of Sindh and abroad. Sindhi Language Authority is committed to bring out such transations, so that the students, teachers and common readers all over Pakistan and abroad may benefit from the scholarly works of Sindhi scholars.
